Process in a service oriented architecture

Business Process Management in a Service Oriented Architecture (BPM in SOA) is seen as a next major leap in how people build IT systems.

Using something like the Ultimus BPM suite at the heart of the business, talking to other systems via web services can glue different systems and applications together as coherent processes.

Each step in a process can:

  • be exposed as a web service – allowing other systems to pass data and complete the step.

  • consume a web service - provided by another system – to pass data, get data from it or to make the other system perform an action.

A process application such as this is easily developed in Ultimus and has the advantage that any of the supporting applications can be changed without modifying the overall process.
